Lego. What do you think when you hear that word? Do you think of the plastic bricks? Do you think of the minifigures? Do you think of the videogames? Well, all 3 of those things I mentioned are combined in this game! (And then some!)

 

              The story of Lego Dimensions goes something like this: Lord Vortech, our bad guy, finds these “creative elements” (yes, one of them is cake) and builds a castle by using them. Then, he starts creating vortexes around the different universes with a magic stick or something. (I haven’t played the entire game.) Robin, Frodo, and Metalbeard are all stolen from their respective worlds, so Batman, Gandalf, and Wyldstyle set out to rescue them (and all the other people being sucked into them!).

 

              There are many different worlds inside Lego Dimensions, including Doctor Who, The Simpsons, Portal, The Wizard of Oz and Lego’s own Ninjago, Chima and Lego Movie. Many popular characters are playable and buildable too, such as Harley Quinn, Unikitty, Scooby-Doo, Chell from Portal, and even Homer Simpson! The franchises that managed to get into the game are some of the greatest out there!

 

              “How is the gameplay?” is a question that you’re probably asking yourself. The answer? Pretty much like every other Lego game- build things, solve puzzles, beat up baddies, and get a little laugh. There are 2 key differences though- for one, it’s taken a thing or two from Skylanders and Disney Infinity, the Toys to Life part! The other part is the fact that it uses the Toy Pad in very creative ways to solve puzzles- changing the color based on the color the characters are painted ingame, throwing characters through portals, and more!

 

              As of me typing this up, I only have the starter pack (and now, Emmet). However, later on I plan on getting Benny, the Gamer Kid, Chell and a few more. However, the builds are wonderful- the Batmobile looks great! The best part about the different builds? They have 2 extra builds, buildable in real life and playable in the game! For example, one of the extra builds for Emmet’s Excavator is Emmet’s Construct-O-Mech from the movie! Obviously though, the vehicles cannot be scale. This is reflected in the game- you can have the Doctor driving around in a tiny Invisible Jet!

 

Final Score - 4.5/5

Very good game, is just a little too much like other modern games- released before they’re finished, so they have a few glitches. However, I’ve only come across 2 glitches so far, both in the Simpsons level.
